Mrs. Clarence Eber Holmes, the former Hannah May Merkley, died at Winchester District Memorial Hospital on May 15, 1976 following a long illness. She was in her 89th year.

Born in Winchester Township, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Philip Merkley, she was predeceased by her husband in 1969.

The late Mrs. Holmes is survived by five sons and three daughters: Thomas I., Gerald, Keith and Murray, all of Winchester; Lloyd, Ottawa; Mrs. Eric Rawson (Mary), Kingston, Mrs. Keith Fawcett (Marguerite); and Mrs. Ron Timmins (Murla), both of Inkerman. She was predeceased by daughters Lula and Edna and by sons Woodrow and Edward.

Brothers Royal, Glen, Asel, Harold, Myles, Gerald and sister Myrtle Darling also survive. She was predeceased by sister Minnie.

Also surviving are 47 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.
A member of the Winchester Wesleyan Church.
Pall bearers, all grandsons, were Stephen Holmes, Robert Rawson, Gordon Bell, George Holmes, Lyall Holmes and Bryan Holmes.

Internment was at Maple Ridge Cemetary. ⁶
