  General Notes:

Excerpt from "A History of the Branches of My Family" by Cecil Herbert Edward Johnston and edited by Stephen Robert Johnston:

Apparently, he operated a bottling works at Lime Lake during his younger years. He moved to Manitoba, near his brothers William and Robert, and homesteaded NW 19-11-17. This quarter section is near where the Sparling Church stood. Aunt Dora cooked for Dad during his bachelor days. Dave sold out to his brother Robert in 1909 and moved to Saskatchewan. They lived at the Rural Municipality of Coteau, Saskatchewan. He died February 25, 1922 at Calgary, Alberta of "creeping paralysis". Probate records show that they owned SE 1/4 S10 T23 R15 and SW 1/4 S10 T23 R15. The residence is the settlement of Coteau (rural municipality). After his death, Aunt Dora moved to Calgary, Alberta and lived with her daughter, Violet.

Rita Keddy wrote that Dora did nursing. Dave and his brother Robert were having a house built on section 33, township 11, range 17 about 1909, when Dave decided to move to Saskatchewan. It is my understanding that Dora kept house for Dad at that time. That was probably shortly before Dave moved to Saskatchewan. It appears that Dave lived at Lime Lake until shortly before 1909, started to homestead in Manitoba, then moved to Saskatchewan. Reta said Robert bought the property of his brother Dave, SW 1/4 33-11-17. Homesteaders and Homemakers of Elton Municipality shows Robert bought this quarter 1908 from Thomas McLeod.
<From censuses. In 1881, they are at Ashfield, Huron County, Ontario, with no children. In 1891 they are at Kincardine, Bruce County, Ontario. On the 1901 census, Dora and the children are at Kincardine, and Dave is listed with his cousin "One Arm Bill" Johnston at Dufferin, Manitoba. He was probably in the course of making the move to there. In 1906 the family is at the village of Carman, Manitoba. In 1911 and 1916, they are at Township 23, Range 15 in Saskatchewan, called Moose Jaw in 1911 and Kindersley in 1916.> 1
