A man of grace and vitality, Scott died on January 27, 2012, age 84, after a 16 year illness with Alzheimers. He will be greatly missed by his wife Cecil, by his children Scott (Trish), Geoffrey, and Lisa, by his step-children Michelle McLeod and Angus Pady, by his grandchildren Alicia, Sarah and Sierra, by his sisters Nancy (the late David Young) and the late Rosemary Feick and brother, the late Robert Fennell and his Australian family, by his niece Gayle Boxer Duncanson (Andy), nephews David Young (Robin), Bob Young (Nancy), and the late Michael Young, and by his loving caregivers at 147 Elder Street. Scott attended school at the University of Toronto School, Trinity College School and the University of Connecticut. Scott's successful career in commercial insurance included his vice presidency at Reed Shaw Osler (later Reed Stenhouse). In 1973 he formed the firm R.B. Carmichael Insurance Brokers Limited. In the mid 70's he developed the Port of Newcastle, a harbour and marina on the shores of Lake Ontario. In 1979 he became the federal Progressive Conservative Member of Parliament for Ontario Riding. From 1985-1988 he served with distinction as Chief Government Whip. During this time he was president of a family owned company Windsweep Farms Inc. On retirement from politics, Scott developed a water company, Claremont Springs Inc., sourcing water from the spring on his Claremont farm. Scott's volunteer activities included Director and V.P of the Canadian National Sportsmens Shows, President of the Southern Ontario Ski Division, President of the Canadian Ski Association, Director of PC Canada Fund and Ducks Unlimited. Scott was a tireless and beloved ski coach of young skiers at the Osler Bluff Ski Club. A service will be held at ST. JAMES CATHEDRAL (65 Church Street, Toronto), at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 1st, 2012. No flowers please. Condolences and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com. 4
