Many Friends Attend Funeral of Accident Victim At Kemptville. (Special to The Citizen (KEMPTVILLE, July11).
The funeral of the late Laura Jacqueline Shaver, 21-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Earnest Shaver of this village, who was accidentally killed on the Prescott highway on Thursday afternoon when the car which she was driving left the road, was held from the home of her parents this aftemion to South Gower cemetery. Mourned by a large circle of friends, the funeral was one of the largest held in this town in recent years. The grief-stricken mother, who has been confined to her bed since news of the fatality was told to her, rallied and was in attendance at the service and accompanied the remains to the cemetery. The funeral sermon was delivered by Rev. H. L. Morrison of St. Joan's United church. In the service he was assisted by a former pastor, Rev. W. A. Waddell of Winchester, and Rev. W. J. Hurlow. pastor ot St. Paul's Presbyterian church, Kemptville. The flower-filled home bore evidence of the esteem and love in which she was held by a large circle of friends. The large list of floral tributes received Included those from the family, nurses of Class 1931, Ottawa Civic Hospital, Miss Bennett and the graduate nurses, staff of the Bank of Montreal, Ottawa, managers and staff of Royal Bank, Stanley street, Montreal, and manager and staff of Royal Bank, St. Catherine and McGill branch, Montreal. Besides her parents she is survived by two brothers, Levius of Montreal; Jack at home; one sister, Mary at home, and her grandmother, Mrs. Shaver of Mountain. Among those from out-of-town noticed in the cortege were Dr. Dobbie, representing the superintendent and staff of the Ottawa Civic Hospital, Mr. and Mrs. C. Layton, Montreal; Mr. D. L. England, Montreal; Dr. T. R. Beck, Ottawa; Mr. Reuben Shaver, Ottawa; Mrs. Howard Shaver, Ottawa; and many from Mountain, Inkerman, Winchester and Chesterville. The pallbearers, young friends of the deceased, were Jack Tobin, Tom Langstaff, Joe Wright, William Gordon, Bert Cheney, Richard Leiferman. 5
