His obituary was published in 2007. It read as follows:

Alvin was born on August 25, 1915 to Guy and Mabel (Cutting) Halse in Watertown, SD. He was raised on the family farm near Florence where he attended country school and graduated from Florence High School. Following his education, he moved to Corvallis, OR where he worked as a plant supervisor for Medo-Land Creamery. In 1942, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served during WWII, being honorably discharged in 1945. He then returned to Corvallis, OR.

On May 23, 1946 he was united in marriage to Shirley Coombs in Plankinton, SD. Following their marriage, they lived in Corvallis, OR until November of 1946. They then moved to Clear Lake, SD where they joined Al's brother Lloyd in operating the Clear Lake Dairy and Locker. Following a fire and the death of Lloyd, Al and Shirley reopened the Locker and added Halse's Grocery Store. They retired in 1977 and began wintering in Texas, permanently moving there in 1991. In 2006, they returned to Clear Lake, SD and on August 30, 2007 Al entered the Deuel County Good Samaritan Center. He passed away there on Sunday, November 11, 2007 at the age of 92 years, 1 month and 17 days.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake, SDas well as a member of the Charles Curry American Legion Post 49 in Clear Lake and the Elks Club in Watertown and in Texas. Al was a volunteer fireman for Clear Lake, served on the city council and as mayor. He had a love for watching all sports and especially enjoyed bowing and golfing.

Al is lovingly remembered by his wife Shirley Halse, Clear Lake, SD; two sons: Richard Halse, Corvallis, OR and Darrell (Marilyn) Halse, Clear Lake, SD; two granddaughters: Wendy (Eric) Thorson, Mellette, SD and Becky (Corey) Ochsner, Superior, CO; three great-grandchildren: Miranda and Joshua Thorson and Carter Ochsner; one sister, Doris Jacobson, Watertown, SD and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: Everett, Lloyd, Howard and Myron Halse and five sisters: Amy Murphy, Hazel Sturm, Evelyn Hanson, Charlotte Frydendall and Inez Wiesner.

Memorial Service for Mr. Alvin T. Halse, age 92, of Clear Lake, SD will be Saturday, November 17, 2007 in the United Methodist Church, Clear Lake, SD. Rev. Samuel Sunandkumar will officiate.

Burial with military honors provided by the Charles Curry American Legion Post 49 in Clear Lake will be in the Lakeview Cemetery, Clear Lake, SD. Honorary pallbearers will be the American Legion Members.
