Douglas Barwick Gillespie, M.I.Ex. -, Chairman of the Board, Gillespie-Munro (1969) Ltd., died Tuesday at the Royal Victoria Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born in Montreal, in 1897, Mr. Gillespie was associated with the transportation industry for 63 years, and in 1947 formed Gillespie-Munro Ltd. He was very active in the marine fraternity, both in business and in association work for many years, having been co-founder and first president of the Canadian International Freight Forwarders Assoc. Inc. Mr. Gillespie was a member of Export of London, past president of the Canadian Export Association (1956), past president of The Grunt Club Inc. (1961). He was a member of The Mount Stephen Club and life member of the Summerlea Golf and Country Club and served on the Board of Directors of boath clubs. He was a member of the Montreal and New York Traffic Clubs and of the Canadian Club of New York. Having devoted most of his spare hours to music and photography, he was a serious student of classical music and an expert amateur photographer with awards to his credit in the black and white category. Music was his fondest love and he was at one time associated with the McGill Conservatory of Music and played viola in chamber music groups. He sang for years in his church choir and the Montreal Elgar Choir; being president of the Elgar Choir in 1949. Mr. Gillespie is survived by his wife Marion (Beckstead), daughters Dorothy, Audrey and Sylvia and sons Russell and Harvey, 16 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, brother Jim and sisters Marion and Elsie.

At the Royal Victoria Hospital, on October 19, 1976, Douglas Barwick Gillespie, beloved husband of Marion Henrietta Beckstead, father of Dorothy (Mrs. B. LeBaron) of Chambly, Russell of St. Lambert, Audrey (Mrs. D. Doran-Veevers) of Manotick, Ontario, and Harvey of Ottawa, Sylvia (Mrs. T. Podesta) of Lausanne, Switzerland, grandfather of sixteen, and great-grandfather of one. Brother of Jim, Marion, Elsie, and the late Gordon. Funeral service at the Wray-Walton-Wray Chapel, 1234 Mountain Street, on Friday at 2 p.m. to Montreal Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers donations sent to the Canadian Cancer Society, would be gratefully acknowledged. 4
