His obituary was published in The Gazette on 31 Oct 2008 in Denver, Denver County, Colorado, United States. It read as follows:

Joseph M. Dubits passed away on October 29, 2008 at Pikes Peak Hospice after a courageous battle with cancer. Joe was born May 15, 1936 in Atlas, Pennsylvania.

He joined the United States Air Force in 1952. During his posting to Ottawa, Canada he met and married Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Stoate. Future postings were California, Colorado Springs, Washington D.C., and Vietnam.

Betty and Joe returned here in 1971 with their two children and have resided here since. He retired as a Master Sergeant having received the Air Force Commendation Medal in 1963 for meritorious service.

He also received his second medal (First Oak Leaf Cluster) in 1968 for service in Vietnam. Following retirement from the Air Force, Joe worked for ITT Industries managing the communications center on Peterson Air Force Base.

He was a member of REA, the VFW Post #4051 and St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Betty, his son Brian; daughter, Lee Roberts (Freddy) and his grandchildren, Shelby, Lacey and Flint of Texas. He is predeceased by his parents, Rosie and Mikey Dubits and his sister Celie Jatko.

A visitation was held from 3:00 - 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 30, 2008 at Swan-Law Funeral Directors, 501 N. Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO.

A funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 31, 2008 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 2111 Carlton Avenue, Colorado Springs.

The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. Charles Zinn, Shirley and staff at Rocky Mountain Cancer Center and to Pikes Peak Hospice.
